Get indexed, get ranked, get traffic

No one can deny that you need traffic to your website in order to succeed online. And free traffic beats everything else. Where does free traffic come from? Google and other search engines.

How does Google give out free traffic?

This is something you’ve experienced first hand countless times. You load up Google or another search engine. Type in something you’re looking for. And click one of the links that shows up. Turns out that the website you visit just got free traffic from the search engine. So the real question is how you get that free traffic.

Most people only click results from the first couple pages. The truth is that this first page of results receives nearly all the clicks. And believe it or not, the first 3 results receive over 70% of the traffic.

This means that to get any real traffic you need to be on the first page in Google. And that means you need to be “ranked” in the top 10 by Google. And this bring us to…

What is search engine optimization?

SEO means that your website is clearly about something specific, Google knows that that is and thinks others will agree and find your site useful. The formula Google uses to determine this is known only by Google. However, we do know a few things that count.

Getting indexed

Before your website can begin gaining ranking, you have to alert Google to it’s existence. This is called getting “indexed.” What this means is that Google visits your site and records information about it in their database.

To get indexed, you have to help Google find your site. Getting a link from another site will accomplish this easily. Because Google already knows about these sites, it will follow the new links to you.

Use your Twitter and Facebook updates to get quick indexed links to your site. Because these sites are indexed multiple times every day. And follows new links it finds immediately.

Gaining ranking

After this first hurdle, you need to start gaining ranking. Just getting indexed does you almost no good, considering that Google has billions of pages in their database.

There are three components of gaining ranking:

  • Content
  • Links
  • Activity

Great content

This is also called on-page SEO. And it means that the content on your page matches the keywords you’re targeting. Obviously, the article you’re reading now is about search engine optimization. One reason Google knows this is because the words search engine optimization appear inside it. Another reason is because there are related words, like website traffic, too.

You also need to make sure the title tags, outbound links and the domain itself match the topic of the page. These all play a part in helping Google determine what your website is about.

Your links

The second factor is your linking. This includes both the inbound and outbound links. It’s very important that you have more links coming in than you have going out. So the number of inbound links is important.

Article spinning is a super easy way to get a bunch of inbound links. To accomplish this you start by writing an article that targets the keywords you’re after. You have to also write several different versions of your articles. And post unique versions to lots of websites that accept articles. And quantity is the key here – so do lots and lots.

Make your site active

And lastly, it’s seems clear that Google expects important pages to be actively updated. A page that was created 3 years ago and hasn’t been touched since won’t rank well. Regular content updates to your site are expected. RSS feeds are an easy way to keep your content changing.

Comments from other people on your page are another fantastic way to keep your content updated. This means you need to get real live people to your site, as well. Online forums are simple source of real live visitors.

Set up forum profiles with the ones related to your website. Then become active in the forum. Always include a link back to your site. This will get your more inbound links. And it also gets people to your web page.

Conclusion

Each step listed above is critical. But let’s face it, writing multiple versions of the same article. And creating a bunch of forum profiles. And posting your articles and comments takes a lot of time. And the bad news is that you probably won’t do it.

Fortunately, you can get rank builder software to do all the grunt work for you. So my best advice is to automate as much of this as you can. And then you’re sure to get it done. And if you don’t do it, you simply will not ever get free traffic from Google.
